Aquarium Supplements 

Even in their natural state, salt water creatures (in fact, all manner of creatures) do not get all the required nutrients that they ought to. That is why you can actually see some reef dwellers deviating from their usual diets so as to add the necessary aquarium additives  into their systems. When choosing aquarium supplements for your fish and or coral, it would be advisable to know what minerals they are actually lacking. If you are not so well-versed with such data, you can simply ask the local aquarium fish store for advice. If not, you can catch up on a lot of reading about reef life and the like. There are many books about this topic, and certainly a lot more websites about saltwater fish and invertebrate-raising that you can look up on.  

It should be noted though that not all aquarium supplements are necessary or even welcome. Some of these supplements (although pricey at best) may actually do absolutely nothing for your marine pets.  

If you really want to try giving aquarium supplements, you should take careful consideration of the information written on the aquarium supplement packaging, its instructions on how to dole these out and the dosages required for every gallon of salt water. Some of the more common supplements include supplements for bone growth (for fish); calcium production (for fish and corals); and promotion of nerve conduction (for invertebrates); to name a few.
